What We Believe

Highwatermark exists to serve.

We are dedicated to advancing collaborative solutions that tackle inequality, advance a human rights agenda, amplify the voices of women and girls, and address the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.

Our Commitments

We are committed to promoting a safe, respectful, and supportive culture by encouraging the values and behaviours that reflect openness, fairness, equity, and dignity, and that uphold the foundations of environmental sustainability:

    • Diversity and Inclusion
        • We welcome and celebrate the diverse voices, identities, cultures, and perspectives in our work and in our communities.

        • We recognize that we have more work to do to advance diversity and inclusion. We are dedicated to partnerships and to continuous learning opportunities that challenge us to do better.

    • Gender Equity
        • A gender equal world is a more inclusive, more prosperous, and more peaceful world. We prioritize initiatives that recognize and promote gender equity.

        • Conducting a gender responsive analysis is embedded in all of our training work. For those looking to learn more we recommend the resource ‘Gender Responsive Training Methods’.

    • Reconciliation and Indigenous Rights
        • We acknowledge that we work and live on the traditional territory of Treaty 7 Nations. We take responsibility for understanding our role in reconciliation and honour the past, present and future members of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuu T’ina, The Stoney Nakoda (Iyarhe Nakoda), and Ktunaxa Nations and people of Metis Nation Region 3.

        • We recognize that everyone will be at different points in their journey toward awareness, engagement and action on the path toward reconciliation:
            • If you are looking to start or deepen your learning journey, we suggest exploring University of Alberta’s Indigenous Canada.

            • Whose land are you on?  can be used for learning about the territory you are situated on, finding information for a land acknowledgement, and learning about the treaties and agreements signed across Canada.
