We’re passionate about environmental sustainability, social justice, and community resiliency – and about working with those who share our passion.

Together we have over five decades of experience in strategic planning, project management, and partnership engagement.


Jenn Hoffman (she/her), Principal

With over twenty-five years experience in the education, environment, humanitarian, and international development sectors Jenn is well-positioned to help organizations deliver on their mission-driven work.

Jenn specializes in helping civil society organizations, academic institutions, and philanthropic agencies to advance efforts that reduce risk, conserve the environment, tackle the impacts of a changing climate, and build resiliency.

Her areas of focus include adult education, capacity building, climate resiliency, disaster risk reduction, and nature-based solutions. An experienced trainer, technical advisor, and program director, Jenn is skilled in developing authentic partnerships and advancing cross-sectoral collaborations.

Jenn has been a Principal at Highwatermark since 2017. She currently consults for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) on climate and nature-based solutions and serves as a Climate Adaptation Technical Advisor for Global Affairs Canadaโ€™s Technical Assistance Program – Expert Deployment Mechanism initiative. Jenn is also Associate Faculty at Royal Roads University in the Disaster and Emergency Management Program, instructing on facilitation and coordination in multi-stakeholder environments.

Over the years she has held leadership positions with several civil society organizations and is a recent past Fellow for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) ‘Friends of Ecosystem-based Adaptation’ Nature-based Solutions in Humanitarian Contexts Working Group.

Jenn holds a Masters in Disaster and Emergency Management (climate resiliency) and a Masters in Education (science education, curriculum and instruction). She also holds a Professional Certificate on the IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions.

Recent publications include the โ€˜Nature-based Solutions for Climate Resilience in Humanitarian Actionโ€™ (2023), developed in partnership with Sphere, IFRC, and IUCN.

Active in the social and environmental values movement since 1988, Stephen is an experienced facilitator, political analyst, organizer, and government relations and public engagement specialist.

Stephen was the founder of Wildcanada.net, Canadaโ€™s first online advocacy portal, and has served as Program Director for Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative and as the Senior Sustainability Development Office for Royal Roads University.

Stephen’s also a gifted storyteller, public speaker, teacher, and photographer. He’s the author of fifteen books and countless newspaper, magazine, and online articles.

Stephen currently serves as Senior Manager, Alberta Energy Transition for Environmental Defence Canada. His work involves supporting the conditions for a long-term, sustainable transition from a fossil fuel-based economy to a clean, renewable energy economy in Alberta. Stephen is currently on long-term leave from his work with Highwatermark.
